Our Sustainability Promise
Giving Old Textiles a New Story
Our I'd (Re)Wear That collection is built around the idea that beautiful materials deserve a second chance. We transform reclaimed textiles, including vintage tablecloths, quilts, blankets and other forgotten fabrics, into one-of-a-kind garments and accessories, ensuring that no two pieces are ever the same. Rather than creating more new materials, we focus on reimagining what already exists.
By extending the life of existing textiles, we help keep valuable materials in circulation and out of landfill while creating truly unique pieces with character and history.
Why Vintage Matters
Vintage fashion is one of the most sustainable ways to shop. Every vintage garment worn again reduces demand for new production and extends the life of clothing that already exists. The growing popularity of vintage fashion reflects a wider movement towards conscious consumption and reducing fashion waste.
At I'd Wear That, we carefully source vintage clothing, accessories and textiles, selecting pieces for their quality, craftsmanship and timeless appeal.
Repair, Rewear, Reimagine
We believe clothing should be cherished, repaired and worn for as long as possible. Through hand-guided embroidery, visible mending and creative reworking, we transform existing garments into pieces with a new story to tell. By adding value and extending the life of clothing already in circulation, we help reduce waste while celebrating craftsmanship and individuality.
Sustainable Materials & Ethical Production
Where we source new garments, we work with manufacturers who share our commitment to sustainability, ethical production and responsible manufacturing.
GOTS Certified Organic Cotton
Many of our garments are made using GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton.
We choose organic cotton because it is kinder to both the environment and the people who grow it.
Benefits of organic cotton include:
- Uses significantly less water than conventional cotton production
- Grown without harmful pesticides and toxic chemicals
- Produces fewer greenhouse gas emissions
- Supports healthier soil and biodiversity
- Naturally soft, breathable and durable
- Hypoallergenic and gentle on sensitive skin
- Free from the microplastic pollution associated with many synthetic fabrics
- Biodegradable at the end of its life
GOTS certification also ensures strict environmental and social standards throughout the supply chain, including safe working conditions and fair treatment of workers.
Vegan-Friendly Printing
For our printed products, we work with UK-based printers who use OEKO-TEX® approved water-based inks.
These inks:
- Are vegan-friendly
- Contain no harmful regulated chemicals
- Produce lower environmental impact than many traditional inks
- Are disposed of responsibly through approved waste-management systems
This allows us to create vibrant, long-lasting designs while reducing environmental impact.
Fair Pay & Ethical Working Conditions
We believe sustainability should support people as well as the planet.
Our garment suppliers work closely with the Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) and have achieved Leader Status for their commitment to workers' rights and ethical manufacturing.
This means:
- Safe working conditions
- Fair treatment of employees
- Protection of workers' rights
- Independent monitoring and continuous improvement
Our UK printing partners also pay all employees above the Living Wage regardless of age.
Made to Order, Not Mass Produced
Many of our products are made to order.
Rather than producing large volumes of stock that may never be sold, we create items as they are needed.
This approach helps us:
- Reduce waste
- Avoid excess inventory
- Minimise overproduction
- Keep our environmental footprint lower
It may take a little longer for your order to arrive, but it means we're only producing what people genuinely want.
As a small independent business, it also allows us to focus on craftsmanship, quality and thoughtful production rather than volume.
Plastic-Free Packaging
We're committed to reducing unnecessary plastic wherever possible.
Orders are shipped using FSC-certified paper mailing bags sourced from responsible and sustainable suppliers.
Our packaging is:
- Plastic-free
- Recyclable
- Compostable
- Biodegradable
- Designed to protect your order during transit
If you happen to find bubble wrap in your parcel, don't panic! We occasionally reuse packaging materials or use biodegradable alternatives to help keep useful materials out of landfill.
Sustainability Is a Journey
We're always looking for ways to improve.
For us, sustainability isn't about being perfect. It's about making thoughtful decisions every day — from rescuing vintage garments and upcycling textiles to choosing ethical suppliers, reducing waste and supporting circular fashion.
Every purchase helps support a slower, more thoughtful approach to fashion—one that values creativity, craftsmanship and longevity over mass production.
